The rides at Thorpe Park can be broadly divided into roller coasters, thrilling flat rides, family flat rides, water rides, dark rides and other rides.
The Thorpe hosts a large collection of unique roller coasters. The UK’s fastest- Stealth, UK’s only winged- The Swarm, and also a movie-themed ride- The Saw. Others include the Nemesis Inferno- an inverted roller coaster and the colossus with a colossal 10 loops. The roller coasters at the Thorpe are filled with enormous vertical plunges and giant loops. For a brief moment at the top, most of these rides offer you a bird’s eye view of the entire park.
The Samurai, Zodiac, Vortex, Detonator, and Rush are among the famous flat rides at the park. On the Samurai, you’ll get to experience forces up to 5G as you spin around on the Samurai’s mechanical arm. The vortex spins at 15 RPMs. While this may not seem much, when you’re on the outer edges of its arms, you’re in a cyclone. The Zodiac is another gravity-defying ride that’ll put you upside down repeatedly. The detonator gives you a glimpse of the park from the sky.
Looking for fun rides with family? Thorpe Park has got you covered. Ride the giant banana boat on Mr. Monkey’s Banana Ride. If that’s not for you, try out the storm in a teacup. Hold on tight as you get swirled around like tea. Don’t forget to head over to the boardwalk at Amity Cove to hit a top score on the high striker. Yet another ride is the bumpy cars with an angry birds theme- the King Pig’s Wild Hog Dodgems.
The Tidal Wave, Rumba Rapids, Depth charges, and storm surge are among the most sought-after water rides at the park. All of them drench you head to toe. The tidal wave plunges you into the water from a height of about 85ft. Similarly, in the storm surge, you’ll find yourself in a spinning raft, spiraling from a height of 64ft. The Rumba rapids are milder and can take the younger members of your family with you. The depth charge or the super slide also allows kids.
Thorpe Park has one of the best theme-based dark rides. The Walking Dead rollercoaster is one of a kind. Located in the center of the park, you’ll find yourself in indoor bunkers filled with the undead. The entire place is pitch black apart from the frequent scares and shrieks. Yet another ride is Derren Brown’s Ghost Train. The physical effects on the train are accentuated with VR headsets. The black mirror labyrinth is yet another adventure. Once you get in, figuring a way out is extremely difficult.
