About the London Eye pod
These oval-shaped capsules, crafted by Poma, are much more than just passenger compartments. Numbered 1 to 33 (with the number 13 thoughtfully skipped for good luck!), they symbolize the distinct character of each London borough. Their slow, graceful rotation allows for seamless boarding, though the wheel can momentarily pause for guests needing extra assistance.
Designed by the visionary husband-and-wife team of Julia Barfield and David Marks, its innovative cantilevered structure stands 135 meters tall. Resembling a giant bicycle wheel with its spoke-like cables, it provides an unparalleled viewing platform that allows its pods to offer unobstructed views of the city below.
A fun fact: in 2009, each capsule embarked on its own unique journey down the River Thames to Essex for a significant upgrade, ensuring they remain state-of-the-art. And don't miss the special Coronation Capsule, introduced in 2013 to honor Queen Elizabeth's 60th anniversary.
