Opening in 1905 as the Waldorf, Novello Theatre was built as a pair with the Aldwych Theatre and features design by W. G. R. Sprague. At present, the theater is managed by the Shubert Organization. In 2005, Sir Cameron Mackintosh purchased the theater from Delfont Mackintosh Theatres and renamed it the Novello Theatre in honour of Ivor Novello, the owner of a flat above the theater. In its century-long existence, the Novello Theatre has been refurbished 3 times; once in 1930, then in the early 1970s, and most recently in 2005. Cameron Mackintosh’s company did the last refurbishment for the theater’s 100th anniversary.
