Designed by Frank Matcham, Victoria Palace Theatre opened on 6 November 1911. The pinnacle of technology at the time, the design included a sliding roof over the auditorium to help keep the temperature of the auditorium regulated at performances during the summer months. The theatre is built on the site of an old Music Hall, aptly fitting since it is now known as the site for Hamilton.
